Rabbit skin

The quality of rabbit skins is not the same with every supplier. The difference in the quality of rabbit skins can be due to several factors:

Tanning:

First of all, the quality has to do with the method of tanning. Some of the skins of other suppliers are tanned stiff and thin and also chemically treated. This causes the back of the skin (the leather) not to feel supple and sometimes even has hard areas. A natural tanning can be recognized by a white/beige leather side and is always supple and soft!

Season

The thickness of the skin has to do with the season; a summer skin is thinner and a winter skin is tanned thicker. This makes the winter skin feel even softer. Summer skins are therefore not of inferior quality, they are simply thinner and therefore more suitable for use in clothing / accessories for example.

Origin / quality requirements

Heartline only supplies skins that meet European quality requirements. The skins that are tanned in Asia or (South) America are of much lower quality. Also, the conditions under which the rabbits have lived and the labour conditions of the employees are severely substandard, according to Heartline's standards. And on top of that Joop also has his own critical eye, so only the most beautiful skins end up in his inventory!
